With the close of our “Scarves for Soldiers ” project, there have been some requests for information about more charities to knit for. Here is an extensive list:
Knitting for Charity Opportunities
We are considering repeating this program, choosing a charity that is closer to home, such as “Gifts to Give” in New Bedford, or a local hospital or nursing home. Watch for more details in the spring.
BTW, so far, 180 scarves have been turned in.
As of right now, 138 scarves have been sent to soldiers in Afghanistan, thanks to the work of about 51+ area women and girls. With funds donated by the Friends of Plumb Library, and the Rochester Lions Club, supplies purchased from Michaels Craft Store in Wareham, and distributed to area knitters in April, with a deadline of Veteran’s Day. Nine scarves were sent to the USO in July, courtesy of the Lion’s Club, and 129 were delivered to a kind volunteer in Acushnet, who will send them on in Care Packages being assembled by the USO.
